Where I Have Been

So it’s been quite some time since I have posted on the kobokonos, and I thought that I would explain as to where my head has been. Most of the books that I have posted about on this webpage were free preceding copies provided by publishers and Netgalley. I became frustrated with the webpage when all of my preapproved copies expired on my device whole I was out one day attempting to read a new story. So I left to read something that I had on my device that didn’t have and expiry date, which wasn’t the worst thing, but I started to go through the books that I found on my own. With a lack of a demand to have to post it looks like there wasn't much of a reason to do so. To be honest with you it looks like I miss writing about books. Looks like we are on the comeback tour.
I was sitting at home finishing the shape of water, and I loved the book that I thought I would write a post for it because the book is beautiful. So in short it looks like I am planning on coming back and posting on a more regular basis. I think that the posts will improve because it looks like it’s teatime of year where the 2018 best book awards are up for vote on Goodreads, and it’s honestly one of my favourite time of year. The best books always manages to load up my already extensive and perhaps out of control ‘to be read’ shelf. So hopefully the boost to the shelf will boost the content on the site. Let’s see where this will take us.

The Shape of Water by Guillermo Del Toro

So, this book is far out of my comfort level for genre. I’m don’t know myself to venture outside of my regular norm. From my regular WWII historical fiction, to police procedural, I rarely venture into uncharted territory of Guillermo Del Toro. I rarely find myself branching out to any sort of science fiction or fantasy. I think the last fantasy novel I read was the City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare back in 2014, and that one was dragging the series out too far and ended up being a 2/5 star book for me.   Where all I can say is that I thoroughly enjoyed those book, and ended up giving it 5/5 on my Goodreads account.             The Shape of Water was an absolute knockout of a book. I was hesitant to pick it up at first, and that’s mainly due to the nature of the story. The giant creature and a human being, and the love story are usually an off switch for me. The Echo of Old Books by Barbara Davis

The main premise of the book is about a book shop owner Ashlyn Greer, a rare book seller, who has this special ability to feel the feelings left on a book from an owner through what she calls echos. One day as she is going through a box of old books that a friend came across, she ends up feeling a great despair emanating from a particular book. After reaching out to the person she recieved the book from she finds out there there are 2 devastating novels both with feelings of despair associated with the echos given off from the books. The story is 2 sets of stories intertwined with unfolding as it is actualy happening, with a more of a realtime feel, and the other is taken from the found novels leaving a whole world of historical mystery.  I found that as I was reading the book, I was more interested in Ashlyns story, rather than the stories told by the authors from the discovered novels. Goodbye 2018 reads, Hello 2019 books! #NewYearNewPages

Every year I set a goal for reading associated with www.goodreads.com  . For 2018 I set the goal of 22, and managed to finish reading 24... which of course I  was super excited about. For 2019 I set the goal of 29 books, meaning that I have to finish roughly 2.5 books per month. As I am writing this it is January 20th and I am on track to making my first month, which happens to be quite exciting. (Reviews from what I have already read are in the works). Unfortunately it seems that my to be read list is growing wildly out of control, with something like 530 books on it at the start of the year I decided that I should try to cut that down a nugget. So I managed to cut just shy of a hundred books off of my list, this list has become a place where books go to die. Unfortunately as soon as I took a bunch of books off of the list was the same day that I spent time looking at new books and added another 10-20. #dontjudgeme.  Here's to all the amazing books that are going to be read and
